You will begin your academic journey at Rice on August 16th! Move-in instructions are different for everyone based on their current location. Greater Houston Area students will move their belongings to their rooms from August 12-14th. They will officially move-in on August 15-16th. All other new students will move-in on the 15-16th.
Greater Houston Area Students (August 12th - 14th)
Students will be assigned time slots based on a questionnaire to unload their belongings in their room from August 12th -14th. Students will come to Brown College through entrance 27B for 30 minutes to drop off their belongings to their room and come back downstairs. Advisors (with gloves and masks) will help new students unload and bring their belongings to their rooms if the student is comfortable. Students will not be allowed to unpack until they have been tested and officially move-in on the 15th or 16th.
Move-in Instructions (August 15th - 16th)
Students will be assigned time slots to move-in to Brown College between 7am - 5pm on August 15th and 16th.
Students (not families or friends) will be given COVID tests, and if students test negative, they will be allowed to come to Brown to move-in. Students are expected to sign-up for testing times per the Dean’s email. If students test negative, they will be brought to Sid Richardson College to quarantine. COVID-positive students will be given individual rooms and will have access to daily tele-health and delivery meals. Every student should prepare to test positive and pack a 1-2 week bag to stay at Sid Richardson.
If students test negative, new students will enter Brown College by driving to Entrance 27B, and loop around the parking lot until parked in front of Brown. Parents may park here for 30 minutes, but will have to move away once the time is up. If the new student is comfortable and open to help, O-Week group advisors will help unload belongings in the car with gloves and masks. Uploaded items will be brought to the new students rooms, while new students will walk through Vator Lobby where they will be given their room keys and other administrative information. They will then be allowed to walk up the stairs to their room where they can help bring their things to their rooms or exit to the Brown Lot to see their families. There will be student activities running through the towers and quads during the entire move-in from August 15-16th that students can join in.
