Meet the Coords

What is a Coordinator?

The three of us are your O-Week Coordinators, and we are part of the team of students working to make the Rice O-Week experience the best possible! Traditionally, each residential college has three student leaders called O-Week Coordinators who are selected to oversee the preparation and execution of O-Week for the college and contribute to the campus-wide components of orientation. We are three upperclassmen from Brown College, and we have been planning O-Week and eagerly anticipating your arrival since January. We have dedicated the majority of our spring semester and summer to planning a week that we hope will surpass your highest expectations.

We chose to do this job because we care deeply about our fantastic college Brown, we love Rice, and we appreciate O-Week’s ability to make a powerful difference in an incoming student’s life. Most importantly, we wanted to do everything possible to give you the foundation to make your Rice experience special, in a way only you can! Our main responsibilities as Coordinators are selecting the theme, selecting the Advising Team, planning events for DiscO-Week, reading your forms, matching you with your roommate, forming your groups, and ensuring that O-Week exceptionally prepares you for your journey at Rice.

Emma Hourican

Junior. She/her.

Who’s that streak of auburn running through the inner loop? It’s the one and only Emma Hourican. Resident Cross Country and Track Athlete, Emma is often whizzing around from the track to classes. Both a Sports Medicine and Exercise Physiology and Psychology major, her studies have equipped her to know all the ins and outs of the human musculoskeletal system.

In order to keep her energy up, you’ll often catch her at Chaus or any other coffee shop around town. Being a local Houstonian, she knows all of the hot spots, whether it be a cafe or a sweet spot to thrift. If you ever want to catch a ride with her be prepared for an epic car rise jam sesh,

Emma is one of the most loyal friends you can have, and will always be the first person to ask what she can do to help. She loves helping so much that she TA’s for many kinesiology courses and even helps the environment as a Brown College eco rep. She looks forward to greeting new students as they enter Brown for the first time!

Jasmine Klinkao

Senior. She/her.

Say hello to JASMINE! Hailing from Las Vegas, this girl is full of sunshine but never gambles on her education… She's graduating a whole year early! Jasmine is a Mechanical Engineering major with a minor in Asian Studies.

You’ll often see her working in her lab in George R. Brown Hall- where she does research on soft robotics in the renowned Pi Lab! She is also an integral part of the Rice Wind Club and the Brown Spirit Committee.

On the first of the month, you’ll see her in Brown Commons creating our lovely schedule and writing down the monthly birthdays. She has flair for the arts, and is a talented drawer. She even made our O-Week Coord signature that you see on all of our emails!

Jasmine has a calming, caring, and kind energy. She is an amazing listener who always knows what to say when you are in a tough situation.

She is looking forward to being there for the new students and seeing the connections that the new Brownies make with each other and the greater Rice community!

Princess Barge

Junior. She/her.

MEET PRINCESS!!! This peachy girl from Atlanta, Georgia (pun intended) is full of energy and spirit. She is the complete embodiment of a cheerleader, not only by supporting Rice by cheering on our football, basketball, and volleyball student-athletes! You’ll often see Princess strutting around with her high top converse sneakers, maybe walking backwards when giving one of her tours as a Rice Owl Guide. Make sure to wish her a happy birthday if you run into her!

When she’s not being the most spirited Rice Cheerleader, she’s being a pre-med warrior, tackling her Health Science Major. But wait, there’s more! She’s not only a stem queen though, she is pursuing the Medical Humanities and Poverty, Justice, and Human Capabilities minor, and a Spanish Certificate.

On Fridays, you can catch her at the Rec doing her weekly dose of power yoga. Princess loves getting involved at Rice, and is a proud volunteer for the Rice Women’s Resource Center. She is a dedicated member of the club Kids Are Scientists Too and is also a trained Community Facilitator.

You won’t find Princess without her headphones, and some of her favorite artists are Fiona Apple, Daisy Jones and the Six (iykyk), and J. Cole.

Princess has so many amazing and unique qualities, but if we had to describe her in just a few she is bold, empathetic and honest. You can always turn to her for advice, and she’s got your back no matter what. Princess will always be able to put a smile on your face, and her positive energy is contagious.

Princess is most looking forward to greeting New Students and Parents on move in day and helping New Students integrate into the sweet, caring community at Brown and Rice!
