Brown Committees
Committees are student-run teams ran by Committee Heads. Committees help to build the culture of the college and bring the community together. To achieve their goals and gather their committee members, Committees Heads schedule meetings regularly throughout the semester (weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly) and condensed around important events.
There are two types of committees. Standing committees, are permanent parts of the college that are essential to community every year. Some Heads are voted upon by the college, others are selected by the IVP, SVP and EVP. Initiative committees can be created by any Brownie who wishes to head them, and they only exist as long as someone volunteers to head them each new year. Becoming a Committee Head is a great way to get involved in Brown and contribute in small and big ways.
Selection for a given year’s Heads typically occurs in the previous spring, but any vacant Head positions can be filled by freshmen and upperclassmen at the beginning of the fall semester. Come to the Committee Fair at the beginning of the year to see how you can get involved! Each committee will post their group chat and meeting times on this page early on in the year so you can join, you don’t need to be a Head to be on a committee.
Each college also has many cross-campus representatives that serve as a liaison between Brownies and University groups. These representatives are very important as they can help you if dealing with one of their groups. If you have any questions about any of the following groups, reach out to them as they are there to help you!
